Cines de Cuba is both a nostalgic survey of the charmingly decadent buildings of the Cuban island, and a reflection on the evolution of our use of the media.
Carolina Sandretto was in San Miguel de los Banos, under a blazing sun, when she saw an abandoned little cinema and two women and a child walking towards it. After she made that first photograph and researched the cinemas, she embarked in a four-year voyage to photograph all the ones she could find.
While photographing this project which became a 350 pages book, Carolina realized how the cinemas, that used to be the center of our social life, are now marginalized by a more personal yet lonely use of entertainment.
Cines de Cuba, takes us on a road less known, between crumbling facades and broken screens, and unveils the place in our hearths where the fascinating world of the Cinema lies.
