Anna Adamo

Anna Adamo was born in 1991 in a small city close to Milan. She approached photography when she was very young with her brother’s camera. She then attended artistic studies at the institute of Arts of Monza, where she starts to have a more intimate approach to photography but dropped out of school before achieving a diploma. However, even without a solid educational background, she begins to build her way up in this world. In 2011 she took part on the first national competition established by Leica, with the project ‘’This is our youth’’ and won along with 5 others. Here she got scouted by a member of the jury, Magnum’s member Alex Majoli whom later proposed her a work experience with the collective of photographer and photojournalist, Cesura, which he founded. After having worked there as an intern for three months, she’s since been working there as a collaborator. Now she works as a photographer freelance developing personal projects.

The Rites of Spring are a post-hardcore band from the eighties I have been constantly listening to since I was a teen myself–came to my mind and ended up in the title line. The name of the band, in turn, comes from Igor Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, a ballet and orchestral concert that work staging the ancient russian propitiatoty sacrifice of a maiden, forced to dance till death on the altar spring. Just like the maiden’s dance, my series has something hectic about it; its rhythm is cha- racterized by an almost physical gap betwe- en fiction and truth, the story is that of being identified with that teenager and my dance is made of images that swirl and scan my life, I find in them that sort of individual freedom that generate in me different moods and sometimes completely opposite, from a state of exaltation to an abyssal sadness, sometimes harsh and aggressive. There is no real beginning or end here, it is constantly evolving and we have always traveled together in parallel, as if it was my shadow.
