“Human beings have always sought self-determination in a group. Photography reveals what we are alike in ”. Simone Cerio (b.1983) is an Italian documentary photographer, specialized in visual journalism. Always interested in hybrid languages, his images own a narrative that highlights the importance of the deep relationship with the other. The thread that binds his works is the theme of identity and social changes and the use of an extremely intimate storytelling. Best known for his research on LGBTQ+ believers communities, entitled RELIGO, and his work on the sexual assistance for disabled people, LOVE GIVERS. Projects that earned him international awards including the Wellcome Photography Prize 2019 in the “Hidden Worlds” category. Contributor of the NGO Emergency since 2014 and co-founder of MOOD Photography, a photography study center where he teaches “Identity and Method”, “Visual Journalism” and a masterclass in “Long Term Project”. Simone has exhibited throughout Italy and Europe, he collaborates with national and international magazines.
