DEAD OR ALIVE, real or represented in the form of statues or soft toys, animals are always sources of enchantment for the human beings. Each child feels a primal attraction towards those other living beings that populate the earth. They are conceived as toys, tools for work, companionship and nutrition. Man continues to love them, enslave them, eat them, imprison them, deify them. They are the protagonists of almost every comic and game, they are exalted and just as massacred. I continue to be somehow attracted to every animal, whether it is alive or dead, wild or made out of plastic, free or defeated. If it were in my power, I would close the large aquariums tomorrow but I must admit that I love to stay there for hours. Few things scream justice like zoos, yet the ability to see animals up close remains a call I pretend not to hear. Although diving and watching underwater is my favorite activity, I still enjoy visiting the fish markets. I don’t do it anymore but I really like fishing. I can’t pretend that I didn’t feel a dominant emotion the only time in life I hunted an animal with a weapon. I am convinced that no physically healthy human being has any reason to continue being a carnivore, yet, I seldom continue to eat meat and fish. This series of photos was born from the paradox born by the incongruent coexistence between these feelings.

The ultimate goal is building an operational self-defence force if a Russian aggression becomes reality.
Lithuania will recruit and train military personnel for the next five years starting in September 2015, enlisting 3,000 people, aged 19 to 27. The great majority of them -about 2,600 recruits- have joined voluntarily.Mattia Vacca

It tells about the Roman “extreme clubbing” evenings, organized by “Ritual the Club”. Moments in which judgment is suspended and one is free to express oneself, everyone is welcomed and in some way protected.

Kazakhstan (2014)
These photographs were taken in Kazakhstan on April 2014, upon an invitation by the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan to work on a collective documentary project in the South, covering the Kazak part of the ancient Silk Road.
During my stay, I took pictures of people and places, without any intention to follow a specific story, just focusing on the visible contrasts of modern Kazakhstan.

From Texas to India, Malawi to China, Iceland, Morocco, and Fiji, I recorded the spontaneous and natural joy that unites kids despite their diverse backgrounds. Whether the child owns a veritable fleet of miniature cars or a single stuffed monkey, the pride that they have is moving, funny, and thought provoking.

120€The series of portraits is photographed along the mining corridor, in Peru, among Espinar, Challhuahuacho, and Cerro de Pasco districts, three main mining towns. It aims to visually tell the stories of individuals who feel on their bodies the consequences of intensive mining extraction and how their life and health conditions are deteriorating day by day. Colored backgrounds represent people’s feelings. Today Peru is the leading producer of gold, silver, and lead in Latin America and the 2nd of copper globally, mining is the driving force of its economy. However, as a consequence of a sudden and forced development, the human rights of native populations who are living in communities along the Andes Mountain range, near the extraction sites, are violated with no regard. Mining activity has subverted the economy which was mainly based on agriculture and livestock and fragmented the population’s cultural identity.
According to Peruvian Constitution, Government should guarantee respect for the territories and backgrounds of indigenous but, because of its weakness and high corruption, it is not happening so and violent repression of social conflicts is promoted by police.
Agriculture and raising animals can no longer sustain the Andean communities: fields are dry, animals die, lands, rivers, and sources of water have been contaminated by heavy metals, and the dangerous presence of arsenic, zinc, lead have been diagnosed in people’s blood and urine. Malnutrition and anemia affect almost half of the population and there are no health centers able to take care of those who are poisoned by metals. Kidney failure and cancer are the main cause of death. Many children are born with physical malformations. Criminality, prostitution, and sexual diseases are exponentially increasing too.
The exploitation of lands for raw materials’ extraction is affecting Latin America and it shows how neocolonialism is creating profit on the backs of local communities.

120€Centolire is an ongoing personal project I started the day I moved to New York.
I decided on a whim to leave Milan and my entire life, and I was very anxious about the venture. As a photographer, I faced my distress by taking pictures
Centolire grew beyond the need to embrace a difficult situation, and instead became my visual diary
The title comes from a traditional Italian migrant song
“…mamma dammi cento lire che in America voglio andar….”
“mum, give me a hundred liras as I want to move to America”
This particular set is a series-in-the-series, named “Santi e Madonne in Alphabet City”, which is a small homage to all the statues of Saints tht can be found in the public and private gardens in Alphabet City, in New York
Note: All Centolire’s pictures are taken with phone cameras

I work on the urban changing of my city, Milan since several years. This picture belong to a body of work done for the architecture magazine Domus in the year 2019.
I look for, for an unexpected vision of the city, a way to rediscover it and to look at the city with differents eyes.
I decided to explore the Bocconi new head quarter designed by the Japanese architecture forum SANAA and specifically the Castiglioni residency at night and I found out a lanterna long the ring road of Milan, a completly perception of the same architectural space so different from the day and night
